God of War II is a hack and slash action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE). First released for the PlayStation 2 console on March 13, 2007, it is the second installment in the God of War series, the sixth chronological sequel and sequel to 2005's God of War.

God of War II: Original Video Game Soundtrack, composed by Gerard K. Marino, Ron Fish, Mike Reagan and Cris Velasco, was released on CD by Sony Computer Entertainment on April 10, 2007. Square Enix Music Online's Dave Valentine gave soundtrack 8 of 10, and said to contain a wide selection of ominous orchestral pieces, and the contribution of each composer seems a bit more distinctive than the previous part.  Spence D. of IGN wrote that the score "is an impressive orchestral achievement in the ever-growing and ever-changing field of video game composition," but that it was geared more toward the God of War II gaming experience, rather than of being a musical experience. 

[45] At the 2007 Spike Video Game Awards, the soundtrack was nominated for "Best Original Score". [46] In March 2010, the soundtrack was released as downloadable content as part of the soundtrack to the God of War trilogy in God of War III Ultimate Edition. 

The game is loosely based on Greek mythology and takes place in ancient Greece, with revenge as the central motif. The player character is the main character Kratos, the new God of War who killed the first one, Ares. Kratos is betrayed by Zeus, the king of the Olympian gods, who takes him away from his deity and kills him. Slowly drawn to the underworld, he is rescued by Titan Gaia, who instructs him to find the Sisters of Fate, as they can allow him to travel through time, avoid betrayal and take revenge on Zeus.

The gameplay is very similar to the previous part and focuses on combination-based combat, achieved through the player's primary weapon, Athena's Blades, and secondary weapons acquired throughout the game. It has fast time events that require the player to complete various actions of the game controller in a timed order to defeat stronger enemies and bosses. The player can use up to four magic attacks and one ability to enhance power as alternative combat options.
